This website serves two main purposes:

To promote the supply of technical translation services

To maintain a convenient list of translation and/or Swiss related links

It has been built using the SPIP CMS system and the SARKA templates.

Because of recent updates in the template, the site is currently only available in English, but will soon be viewable in native French and German as well. SPIP and SARKA were selected for their inherent multilingual capabilities and the highly active and very friendly support communities that they have built.

Novado Communications frequently calls upon the services of other freelance translators for assignments that fall outside of our nominated competencies and fields - you are welcome to submit your CV and contact details for evaluation in the event that such assignments are submitted, but no promises implicit or explicit can be offered in regards of approval or allocation of work.

Mark Baber, the author of the Novado Communications web sites, is a freelance English-speaking translator domiciled in Switzerland.

He has over twenty years of solid professional experience in the IT domain, with practical roles in: pre-sales, systems engineering, analysis, design, programming, documentation, help desk, network management, project management, database design and management, hardware and software sales and installations, software localisation, ERP, CRM, client/server, and internet technologies.

Specialising in French-to-English and German-to-English technical translations, Mark works for direct clients and translation agencies alike. He has a wide portfolio of translation experience for many major European and Swiss corporations and utilities, including companies operating in the following industries: telecommunications, electricity generation, consumer products, software, motor vehicles and accessories, tourism, and petro-chemicals.

He has worked and lived in New Zealand, Australia, the United States, the Caribbean islands, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, therefore being well acquainted and practiced with most common variants of modern English.

Mark maintains his interest in technical IT matters with his involvement in the French-speaking F/OSS CMS project, SPIP, and the SARKA template, both used in the construction of this site. He actively contributes with free translations to this open-source project, the most widely used French-based CMS system available.

Pourquoi utiliser SPIP ?

SPIP est un CMS open source simple d'utilisation !

En quelques heures, vous gérez le contenu de votre site Internet et ce sans aucune connaissance technique.

Son interface intuitive est d'une grande clarté. De plus, une aide en ligne française est disponible.

C'est également un CMS évolutif grâce à une communauté open source très réactive et motivée.

Un de ses points forts est le travail collaboratif. Il est facile pour une équipe de se partager la mise à jour du site. Par exemple, plusieurs personnes peuvent rédiger des articles et les soumettre à un responsable du site. Ce dernier validera et publiera l'article en question ! SPIP est-il facilement adaptable ?

Oui, SPIP utilise un système de gabarits (squelettes). Il utilise pour cela un métalangage (boucles) beaucoup plus simple que PHP. Ce qui signifie q'une personne ayant les bases de développement Internet pourra facilement créer de nouveaux gabarits pour SPIP.

Spip est plébiscité à une écrasante majorité des lecteurs. Avec 52% de part de votes, il dépasse de loin les autres CMS. Viennent ensuite Joomla (16%), eZ Publish (8%) et CMS Made Simple (6%). Typo 3 ferme la marche des CMS ayant reçu plusieurs voix avec 3%.

Par ailleurs, on note la grande diversité de choix des lecteurs puisque 15% d'entre eux ont choisi une solution alternative, que ce soit Artiphp, Open CMS ou WordPress. Ces choix se font surtout vis-à-vis des options spécifiques que proposent ces solutions. Graphisme, blogs, chaque utilisateur se retrouve dans un secteur particulier exploité par ces produits.
